I used to think it was the mullet that caused PES fans to like Dodo so much, but after a more careful study, I now think it’s the fact that he’s not truly awful at anything. 

Most of the Defaults have a Tragic Flaw (or three) that can make you grind your teeth down to the gums when you’re trying to play with them.  Valeny roams forward with reckless abandon, Ruskin is pathetic in the air, Castolo couldn’t hit the ground if his parachute failed, and Stremer trying to play out of the defense is what makes managers contemplate suicide.  With Dodo, you’re content that he’s not be really good at anything, because it means he’s not really bad at anything either.

So who is worse than Dodo?

Who is Worse Than . . . Stremer?

This blog assumes that the Defaults are in actual fact the worst players in the game.  I’ve always thought so, and believed that the start of any new ML was always going to be miserable because of it.  But as I’ve realized – in other ML careers I didn’t exactly go looking to replace the Defaults with other ass-awful players.  Naturally, I would look for as much quality as I could possibly afford.

So as I was working through this project I began to wonder.  The defaults are bad, this is for sure. But is anyone worse?

To answer that question, I’m starting a series called “Who is Worse Than,” that will examine several of the iconic Defaults to find out if they really are the biggest donkeys on PES. Today we’re looking at CB Stremer.
